High School Diploma
Students can earn a High School Diploma with our new online
classes. Register in the Downey Adult School main office. There is a $49
registration fee upon program enrollment.
There are two options students have to complete their High School Diploma.
Option 1) Learning Center : Students can complete their coursework in our Learning Center Lab that offers students unlimited access to resources needed to complete their program successfully. The Learning Center also provides students a quiet learning environment that is free from distractions. Students have the freedom to work at their own pace and instructors are always available to help in any subject that students find difficult for them. Students are able to get one-on-one time with the instructors and the extra tutoring they need to provide a program that is proven to help students succeed.
Option 2) Home: Students are able to complete their High School Diploma with our new online program at their convenience. Our online program offers students the freedom to complete their courses at home, the local library, or anywhere with internet access. Students will be able to complete their regular scheduled work in class or at home and jump ahead by putting in the extra time to complete each course. Students will be required to come in to the Learning Center to complete any test or exam that is needed within their course.
Enrollment in the DAS diploma program will afford students the ability to access our Learning Center and utilize all resources available.
DAS offers a “Transitional Fast Track Program” which is a rigorous accelerated program in which students enroll to complete one course at a time within 5-10 weeks. The Transition Program is available for those who need to complete their Diploma course requirements in order to continue their education at the college level or entrance into a DAS CTE program.

HSD with Edgenuity
Edgenuity is different than a traditional course because it
is self-paced and online; you will learn all the concepts covered in a regular
class at your own pace in an online environment. Much of your coursework
(listening to instruction from on-screen instructors, completing vocabulary
activities, assignments, lab activities, and online quizzes/tests) will take
place during this class period; however, you will be required to access the
program through the library and/or home access if you fall behind. The advantage
of being self-paced is that you can move quickly through material that you know
well and spend longer on things you need more help with.
Because Edgenuity is self-paced though, you will be taking on more responsibility for yourself than you do in a traditional high school class. To be successful with this course it is essential that you are present and on time every day, on task at all times within the class, and be able to track/maintain your progress through the course. You will need to move efficiently through the material. Once the semester is finished, you are out of time. Help will be here to support you, but the ultimate responsibility for your success lies with you.
